A well-developed soil structure is a key attribute of productive and functioning soil. Evidence shows that subtle changes in the spatial arrangement binding constituents impart large mechanical hydraulic properties associated ecological services. However, these features remain difficult to quantify at scales relevant for agricultural management. In this work, we propose pedophysical model interpret macroscopic seismic terms structure. The captures traits accounting plastic deformation due compaction. order evaluate model, use data from field monitoring an experimental site revealed elevated velocities plots were compacted 5 yr prior our measurements. Our results show P-wave carry strong imprint compaction are well predicted by proposed model. infers contact areas between aggregates nearly threefold larger than non-compacted soils, indicating soils have not recovered study illustrates potential methods identify chronic scale.
